In my previous update, I discussed my intention to release a new major version of my stencils. However, I’ve opted for a gradual approach, releasing minor updates along the way. This way, it becomes easier for me because I don’t need to spend long periods allocated to this task, and at the same time, all of you can start enjoying these new icons.
Keeping my promise, I’m presenting another update. I hope it meets your expectations! If you have any specific requests, don’t hesitate to share them with me.
What’s new in this version? (for now)
The main goal of this release was to provide the new icons present in the Azure Portal, on the Power Platform, and new existing Services. In this version, the changes and additions are:
New stencil packages: Additional stencil packages were incorporated into this project to enhance the discoverability of shapes:
MIS Azure Integration Services: this file contains shapes related to Azure Integration Service and messaging.
MIS Microsoft Fabric: this file contains shapes related to Microsoft Fabric – This was actually a request made by a community member. And credits to Sam Debruyn for these Microsoft SVG files. I only had the work to “convert” them into proper Visio stencils.
Move some shapes: I reorganized and relocated certain shapes to other files within this package.
SVG Files: Add new SVG files;
Special Highlights: API Center, Policy fragments, Event Grid, Event Grid: Namespace, Partner namespaces and Partner registrations or APIM Schemas

The last time I released a new version of my stencil, it was on January 26 of 2022. A long time ago indeed, so it is fair to say that I do need to release a new major version of my stencils, and that will be a long work and process. However, I decided to do this task progressively and release minor updates during this “journey”. This way, it becomes easier for me because I don’t need to spend long periods allocated to this task, and at the same time, all of you can start enjoying these new icons.

At their core, mainframes are high-performance computers with large amounts of memory and processors that process billions of simple calculations and transactions in real-time. The mainframe is critical to commercial databases, transaction servers, and applications that require high resiliency, security, and agility
Microsoft Host Integration Server (HIS) technologies and tools enable enterprise organizations to integrate existing IBM host systems, programs, messages, and data with new Microsoft server applications.
HIS allows IT administrators to securely and efficiently connect new systems to existing systems using industry-standard High-Performance Routing (HPR) and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) over Internet Protocol (IP). This reduces operating expenses and total cost of ownership while supporting existing and new computing workload.

The full 7.3.0 version is not yet complete, but I decided to release it in small pieces instead of taking a long time to make all the planned changes and being the Azure part that will require the most work.
What’s new in this version?
This is the list of changes and additions present in this release:
New shapes on MIS: Office, Office 365 and Dynamics 365 package: add some new Dynamic 365 shapes like Dataverse, SCM Warehousing, Project Timesheet, Return To School orReturn To Work, and several new Office/Office 365 shapes.
Remove API Connectors shapes from MIS: Power Platform package: there goal was to simplify this package and migrate that stencils to a dedicated package, since there are more then 600 connectors. Also these connectores are common to Power Automate, Power Apps and Logic Apps.
Create a new package MIS: API Connectors: This package will provide stencils to all connectors currently provided for Microsoft Power Automate, Microsoft Power Apps, and Azure Logic Apps.
Lock the aspect ratio of the new stencil icons: This was a requested made that can be very handly to protects against accidental resizing with another shape aspect.
SVG files: new SVG files added.

While going through my adventure on a BizTalk Server + Host Integration Server (HIS) project and mainframe connectivity, I’m trying to migrate an old HIS2006 solution to BTS2016 + HIS2016. Just ten years of evolution, I notice that:
Many things on HIS2006 are not compatible with HIS2016.
You may found some new limitations and new features.
Luckily Microsoft provides tools to migrate several components, especially the TI resources.
HIS Tools have changed:
SNA Manager is quite the same. Maybe some screens and options are a bit different.
TI Manager is no longer available. Now we have a different tool called TI Configuration Tool with the same goals as the previous one. However, the way we configure Host-Initiated Processing (HIP) and Windows-Initiated Processing (WIP) is different nowadays.
The HIS documentation is quite limited, and you will not find much information about it.
I have to say I’m lucky to have good friends, and because of that, I have been learning a lot with my dear friend Steve Melan, that is the best expert I know regarding HIS.
The last strange (all of them are strange) issue I encountered while trying to Add Host-Initiated Processing (HIP) Object on my HIP configuration by using the Transaction Integration (TI) Configuration Tool was:
Add TI HIP Implementing Assembly
Invalid Assembly. Assembly does not contain any TI Objects that inherit from interface: namespace.interface
Or in other cases:
Invalid Assembly. Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information.
Cause
As I told you before, many things changed from HIS2006 to HIS2016, and migrate the Host Application projects is not direct – Visual Studio does not migrate the project as it does for a C# project or BizTalk Server project. Instead, you need to migrate the resources using the TIConversionTool and then import them to your Visual Studio Host Application project.
And you need to make sure that you are not breaking anything like methods and interface names. And then, you need to reference these new resources (DLL containing the .Net Server Definition) on your interface implementation project. This interface implementation is a C#, or VB, class library project. Then, inside that project, you need to create a class that implements the inherited .Net Server Definition interface and provides the implementation of all the members defined within the interface – in this case, all the operations or COBOL programs in that Host Application .Net Server Definition.
My problem was that this interface implementation was also a very old project, compiled in .NET 2.0. For some reason, I yet not completely understood, and despite successfully migrating them to .NET4.6.1, I couldn’t make it fully compatible with the HIP, and I always got these two issues above.
Solution
The resolution was, in fact, quite simple. Basically, I create a new C# class library project from scratch and copy-paste all the existing code to the new one, recreating the old one manually.
Surprise… everything work perfectly! And then, I could create the HIP object.
An example of a Host Application .Net Server Definition interface implementation is something like this:
using RemoteOrder;
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Runtime.Remoting;
using System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels;
using System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.Tcp;
using System.Text;
using System.Threading.Tasks;
using IHIPServices;
namespace TestOrders
{
public class OrderImplementation : IHIPServices
{
void IHIPServices.GetOrders(ref string value)
{
/*
* Implement the logic
*
*/
}
}
}
What you need to be aware of are:
It should reference these two HIS assemblies:
Microsoft.HostIntegration.TI.ClientContext
Microsoft.HostIntegration.TI.ServerContext
It should reference the Host Application .Net Server Definition assembly
In this case, represented by IHIPServices
Implement the interface members
In this case, represented by IHIPServices.GetOrders(ref string value)
I’m not a Dynamics 265 expert, and Dynamics 365 is not my focus area. Nevertheless, I couldn’t ignore the flood of requests to add the new Dynamics 365 logos, especially the App icons. It took a while, but they are finally here.
What’s new in this version?
These are the list of changes and additions present in this major release:
New shapes: There are new shapes on the following Visio Stencils files (.vssx):
MIS Office, Office 365 and Dynamics 365: add the new Dynamic 265 logo, Dynamics 365 App Icons, and Dynamics 365 Mixed Reality Icons.
MIS Azure Stencils and MIS Azure Additional or Support Stencils: there were a few new icons add to the stencils, most of them related to new preview features and integration services like the new Logic App icon.
SVG files: new SVG files added.

There was a big buzz this weekend regarding the release of a new Azure Logo by Microsoft. The new Azure icon represents the unity of Azure within the larger Microsoft family of product icons. It’s part of Microsoft’s Fluent Design System, carefully crafted to produce icons that look familiar to what customers know and love, while representing the agile future of our business.
I usually don’t update my stencils only because of a new icon. Still, this time I made an exception, and I updated my package with this new Azure icon (thanks, Tiago Costa, for providing me the resource). I also toked this opportunity to add also a previous request: the new Dataverse icon.
