      Hi,

We are considering using Biztalk 2006 on Virtual server for our Staging environment.  Can someone please let me know the requirements of running Biztalk on a Virtual server?

      Thanks,

      Adnan

We have done it…but it wasn’t pleasant.  It would take up to 4x longer to deploy an application on a virtual server vs a physical server.  Since there is a lot of IO with BizTalk….virtualization isn’t ideal….at least based on my experiences with it.

Here is what Microsoft considers the minimum hardware requirements:

I think they are underestimating significantly.

I’d suggest that the spec on the MS site is purely for the BizTalk element and not SQL. We’ve tried running virtualised BizTalk and have succeeded where BizTalk is virtual and SQL is metal. The limiting factor typically is the speed of you db IO, get a shed load of disks, configure your db correctly and you should be able to run a production capable BizTalk in a virtualised environment.

I agree, I think there are better opportunities with success on a physical SQL box as that is where the heavy disk IO is occurring.
