I have installed BizTalk 2006 Developer Edition on a Windows 2003 server running SQL Server 2005 with Integration Services and Analysis Services. I’ve installed all BizTalk components and configured the server using a Basic configuration. Everything seems to work fine, except BAM which appears to be missing the cube.
I have got 4 SQL databases installed for BAM (BAMAlertsApplication, BAMAlertsNSMain, BAMArchive and BAMPrimaryImport). I’ve also got a BAMAnalysis Analysis Services database installed. However this database contains no cubes, dimensions, data sources etc. The only thing it contains is two roles called BAM Alerts and BAM Administrator. From the documentation I can find on it, I get the impression I am missing a SQL Server database called BAMAnalysis, a cube as well as a DTS package or SSIS package.
I’ve tried running the BizTalk Configuration application and it detects that configuration for BAM needs applying when I click the Apply button. The configuration for BAM Tools shows the BAMPrimaryImport and BAMArchive data stores in grey and BAMAnalysis and BAMStarSchema in white. When I click Apply it looks like it is making the changes and comes up with no errors when it completes, but as far as I can see no configuration changes have been made. If I run the app again it says the same changes will be made. I’ve looked in the log file that it creates and searched for “error” in the text and can find no problems. I’ve even tried removing BAM in the configuration and then re-adding from scratch but still get the same results. I’ve also tried the same thing on my XP 64 bit development box and this seems to be in exactly the same state.
I’m guessing that I am missing a step somewhere in my configuration and that this is going to be a “school boy error” but I really can’t see what it going on with this. Does anyone have any ideas?

I think I see where my problem is. If I’m right the cubes are not created until you use Excels BAM add-in and the Tracking Profile Editor. Thanks to Apress and “BizTalk 2006 Recipies” for explaining that one. Could anyone recommend a decent web cast or tutorial on setting this up?

One final question… Is it possible to use the BAM Excel add-in from a client PC or do you have to have Excel and the add-in on your BizTalk server?

That's correct. You are missing the cubes. The Recipes book is a great source, also when it comes to configuring BAM. Chapter 9 contains a number of recipes which help you in setting up your BAM activities and views and create a tracking profile.
