ways to receive file (data) securely

I need to process a file from an outside entity and need the information to be secure.
Should the file be encrypted and then use Biztalk ftp and get the file on a receive port or perhaps
buy the \nsoftware to do a ftps xfer.  What other options do I have?

Suggestions are appreciated.
