    I raised the same question with MS in my consulting days, their answer went something like this:

    The BizTalk.System and BizTalk EDI Application do not count towards the 5 total applications that are ‘allowed’ under the standard licence.

    Also, the default BizTalk Application 1 is simply a ‘getting started application’. This can easily be removed or renamed, so no need to worry about this being included oin the maximum..
