I’m building a BizTalk orchestration which calls a DB2 stored procedure. I’ve done this many times before and thought this one would be no different. However, it seems that BizTalk wants the stored procedure parameters in one order, and the DB2 side wants another.
The stored procedure parameters (as defined in the SP itself) are in this order: input (int), input (string), input (string), input (int), input (string), input (string), input (string), input/output (string), input (int), input (int), output (int), output (string).
The way BizTalk seems to like it is this: input (int), input (string), input (string), input (int), input (string), input (string), input (string), input (int), input (int), input/output (string), output (int), output (string).
When I arrange the parameters in my schema in the DB2 order, I get this error: The parameter value for parameter 7 could not be converted to a native data type. Parameter Name: <name>, Data Type: <string from input/ouput parameter>, Value : Int
If I arrange them in the BizTalk order, I get this error: THE VALUE OF INPUT HOST VARIABLE OR PARAMETER NUMBER 8 CANNOT BE USED AS SPECIFIED BECAUSE OF ITS DATA TYPE.
Is there something with how BizTalk handles INPUT/OUTPUT parameters, or parameter order in general that I’m missing? Or is it something completely obvious that I’ve overlooked?

One I was working at one of my customer’s site – I saw such an error:
This was happening in a case if one of parameters of incoming message wwas empty (is I remember correct) or null, the SQL statement which should be executed – was “shortening”. i.e. the parameter is null = the field didn’t appear in message sent to DB2.
The solution to problem was scripting functoid: if field in incoming message is empty – pass to outgoing message empty string or default value.
