Visual Studios 2008 and .Net 3.5 Released! by Stephen W. Thomas
Today is an exciting day for software developers! Microsoft has released Visual Studios 2008 and the .Net Framework 3.5.
Visual Studios 2008 makes a giant leap forward for the non-professional developer with all new Express (i.e. Free) Editions (http://www.microsoft.com/express/). Visual Studios now have the following four different free editions:
Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition - productivity tool for first time or casual Windows programming
Visual C# Express Edition - provides a great combination of power and productivity
Visual C++ Express Edition - provides more horsepower with a greater degree of control than the other Express products
Visual Web Developer Express Edition - an easy to use environment for dynamic Web application development
Of course, they still have the Team Suite, Team Foundation Server, Architect, Database, Developer, Test, Professional, and Standard Editions.
I don't know about anyone else.... but they sure seem to have a lot of different versions. But at least they have more choices for the Express Editions.
Don't forget to Download the 3.5 Framework here and the Namespace poster is also useful.
By the way, as best I know Visual Studios 2008 does NOT work with BizTalk 2006 R2! I have tested the Team Suite edition and was not able to open any BizTalk projects. Rumor has it a "patch" will be made available - but I haven't heard anything on a timeline.

What Happened to The BizTalker for the past 11 Months?
It has been almost a year since the last edition of The BizTalker. When I sent out issue #9 last December I said to myself, "I'm going to send out one issue every month from now on."
Well, that didn't go over as planned. It's now been 11 months and I'm just getting around to another issue. My time is starting to free up and I'm getting back into the swing of things. Rather than once a month, I'm trying for once every 1 to 2 months, or as events warrant.
I am also working on lining up some great Community Experts as writers for the upcoming issues!
