Creating Anonymous Apex REST APIs with Force.com

The Force.com REST API lets you integration with Force.com applications using standard HTTP methods. This API provides a way to expose the data you have within your Force.com application to external applications – both mobile and non-mobile. A few useful bits of information related to these REST APIs: Use standard HTTP verbs: GET, POST, PUT,… Continue reading → Blog Post by: Wade

A Few Tips on Getting Started with Salesforce.com

Today I got the opportunity to attend a Salesforce.com “hack day” in San Francisco. Quite fun, and I learned a lot from Adam Seligman, Dave Carroll, Pat Patterson, and Akhilesh Gupta. This is a great team: extremely personable, clearly excited about their platform and the technology, and willing to pull up their sleeves and write… Continue reading → Blog Post by: Wade

One of my goals this past year has been to get more hands-on with respects to real-world cloud applications. Working for Aditi has provided many opportunities to dig into some interesting cloud workloads. In addition to building all kinds of applications running in Windows Azure, I’ve learned a lot working with Ryan Dunn and Raghu… Continue reading → Blog Post by: Wade

Using Windows Azure Virtual Machines to Publish and Synchronize a Web Farm

Lately I’ve been attempting to try out a number of different techniques for publishing web applications – both websites and web APIs – to the cloud. I’m being purposely vague when saying “the cloud” – it could be Windows Azure, AWS, or even a traditional hosting provider. It’s likely you saw a great post by… Continue reading → Blog Post by: Wade

Links: Blog: http://blog.hompus.nl/ Serious Request: http://seriousrequest...

Detecting Expired PKI Certificates

Yesterday Windows Azure experienced a worldwide disruption in many services due to an expired PKI certificate for Windows Azure storage. Mary Jo Foley’s article Windows Azure storage issue: Expired HTTPS certificate possibly at fault provides the best coverage of the event as it unfolded. You can also take a look at a few threads on… Continue reading → Blog Post by: Wade

Introducing the LearningLine

Recently we have been working on something new at DevelopMentor for online teaching. I still really like teaching in the classroom and I think that this is a great environment to learn new material. But it is also a very expensive and not very scalable way of learning. It typically means being away from the office for a week at a time and that can be hard on the business and on your colleagues. And while the classroom is a great place to learn that will do you little good if you can’t go there...

Federating Office 365 (Azure Active Directory) with a Custom STS
Posted
by
Syndicated AppFabric Author
Let’s start of with a clarification: As of today, federating Office 365 (Azure AD) with a Custom STS is NOT supported by Microsoft. Today the only supported STSs are AD FS 2.0, Shibboleth 2, Optimal IDM Federation Services and PingFederate 6.10. With that cleared, Office 365 STS supports both WS-Federation & SAML protocols for user [...] Blog Post by: zamd

Sitefinity 5.x introduced claims based security & Single-Sign-On features based on a simple HTTP redirect based token issuance protocol which I’m going to call ‘Sitefinity sign-in protocol’ in my posts. Version 5.x has also standardized on using Simple Web Token (SWT) as the default token format for user authentication and SSO needs. Sitefinity 5.x comes [...] Blog Post by: zamd

Using optimistic concurrency with RavenDB
Posted

Syndicated AppFabric Author
Whatever database your are using, relational or document, there is one thing you can be certain of as soon as you get a second user of the system and that is concurrency conflicts. It may not happen often but eventually it will happen that two users load the same document, make some changes to it and save it back to the database. There are several ways of dealing with these kind of concurrency problems: Just ignoring it and letting the second users changes overwrite the first ones While this isn...

Paging through data in RavenDB
Posted

by
Syndicated AppFabric Author
RavenDB has a very nice feature in it being safe by default and returns just 128 documents. Now you can override these safe defaults but it is very unwise to do so. And even if you decide to do so are you really going to show a million customers to your user at the same time? I would guess not as the user would not be really happy with the response or the speed of it. In most cases using paging is a much better solution. Paging through a RavenDB result set It turns out that paging through...

A few months ago I wrote this post about my diagnosis with Adiposis Dolorosa (Dercum's Disease) . After writing it I had a brief reprieve from the symptoms and for a while I was able to work part time. Then in September I had surgery to remove some of the tumors. For some unknown reason this caused the disease to progress rapidly. I have now reached the point where I can no longer work at all. Not only that, I cannot even live on my own and take care of myself. I have had to move in with my mother...

Storing and retrieving records using RavenDB
Posted

by
Syndicated AppFabric Author
After installing RavenDB 2 the next step is to start saving data and load it again. Unlike SQL server we don’t need to go into the RavenDB Management Studio and create a database and tables with a schema. The database, optional but highly recommended, will be created when we first access it. And when it comes down to tables and schema RavenDB is much simpler, all it does is store documents. A document doesn’t have a schema enforced so we don’t need to define one up front. Instead we just save some...

Installing RavenDB 2

Before we get started with RavenDB we need to install the required parts. There are several ways we can do this and one of the easiest is using the NuGet Package manager from within Visual Studio 2012 with the available RavenDB NuGet packages. Which package to install? As should be obvious from the screenshot above there are quite a few NuGet packages to choose from. It turns out we need to use two packages to get started, the client and server part. Adding them is easy, just open the NuGet...

Enabling ‘Import Service Contract’ menu option

WF 4.5 introduced contact first development using which you can generate messaging activities from your existing WCF contracts. Out of box, this feature is only enabled for ‘WCF Workflow Service Application’ project type and is exposed using the ‘Import Service Contract’ context menu. This is quite useful feature and is certainly required in other project [...] Blog Post by: zamd
